14 DAY TRIAL // We finally have a theory that satisfyingly explains why Beyonce stood by and looked on, apparently unfazed, as Solange punched and kicked her husband, Jay Z, in an altercation that occurred after last week’s MET Gala 2014, in an elevator: Solange has done this before.
Video of a very furious Solange launching at Jay to hurt him and being restrained by a bodyguard leaked online yesterday. It was lifted from footage from a surveillance camera inside the elevator and, because it had no audio, it led to countless theories trying to explain the violent episode.
The mystery around it persists: after all, this is Jay and Bey we’re talking about, one of the most powerful couples in showbiz. The fact that Solange would attack the rapper just like that and, more importantly, that Beyonce would simply look without coming between them, makes the scandal even more fascinating to fans.
Us Weekly claims to have it on good authority that the reason Beyonce acted like this is because Solange has done this before so, at this point, both she and Jay Z are used to it.
“Solange has flipped her lid like that before. She is genuinely a sweet and nice person but she also keeps [things] real. She can take a small thing and it triggers her,” an insider says.
“This is not the first time this has happened. That's why Bey and Jay were so calm. They are used to this from Solange. It has definitely happened before. It is a testament to Beyonce's calm nature how she kept back and played the peacekeeper here. She is so calm and always the peacekeeper,” adds the spy.
So what is perceived on camera (see the video below) as something close to indifference is actually Beyonce keeping calm. As for the peacemaking, that doesn’t really occur until towards the end of the clip, when she talks to Jay and gets him to get off the elevator, after Solange attacks him once more.
The same celebrity publication writes that, while there’s a chance Beyonce and Jay Z didn’t react to Solange’s outburst because they’re accustomed to behavior like this from her, there is a possibility that Beyonce didn’t because she was siding with her sister.
An insider claims that Queen B actually acted very glacially towards her husband throughout the evening, despite the loving display they put on on the red carpet just hours before. “She wasn't smiling, was hardly with Jay, she was off with Solange the whole time,” one source explains.
Apparently, this confirms another popular theory right now, that Solange was somehow defending her sister from Jay Z.
