14 DAY TRIAL // On Monday, Jay Leno was making preparations for his upcoming departure from The Tonight Show, by inviting his replacement and giving out some final directions. In turn, Jimmy took the opportunity to thank the anchor for his graciousness and kindness.
“Jimmy Fallon is here tonight. He's not here to talk - he's helping me pack,” Leno introduced his replacement, as the crowds cheered and applauded. A clearly emotional moment took place, as both past and future anchors seemed to be nervous around each other.
Eventually, they warmed up and were able to make fun about it. Fallon took the opportunity to extend a heartfelt message to Leno which he pretended to make up on the spot and write it on a card.
“Thank you Jay Leno, for carrying on the proud tradition of the Tonight show host with such humor and class and for being nothing but gracious and generous to me over the past years. I will do my best to make you proud every single night,” Jimmy said on the show.
Fallon is set to make his debut on The Tonight Show on Monday, February 17, in two weeks’ time.
