Actor joins the cast for “Man of Steel” sequel, his role is still a secret

Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder are moving fast in picking and signing the main cast of the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel, tentatively called “Batman vs. Superman.” After Gal Gadot signed on as Wonder Woman, it’s now Jason Momoa’s turn to join the cast.

Momoa is most famous for his role as Khal Drogo on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” but also for his take on Conan and, perhaps most importantly for a certain segment of his fandom, his impressive built and good looks. Say what you will about his acting skills, but the man is truly a sight for sore eyes.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms his involvement in Snyder’s much-mediated superhero project, while stressing that the role he will play is still a mystery. However, two possibilities arise, so at least fans can guess at what that might be.

“There's been speculation that the movie's villain could be Doomsday, a Kryptonian scientifically engineered into an intergalactic killing machine. Doomsday famously ‘killed’ Superman in the comics, which became a media event in 1992. The character's existence is even hinted in the extras of the Man of Steel Blu-ray,” THR says.

The other option is that Warners is using the second Superman film to introduce more Justice League characters for when that film will come out. This would explain Batman and Wonder Woman’s appearance, and would mean that Momoa “could also play the Martian Manhunter, a super-powered alien trapped on Earth,” for which he’d be a perfect fit physically.

Marvel did a similar thing with all its superhero movies leading up to “The Avengers,” including cameos and Easter Eggs to introduce fans to characters they had not seen before, so perhaps Warners is ripping a page from that text book.

“Batman vs. Superman” comes out in 2015 and starts shooting early next year. As of now, it’s one of the most talked about superhero movies from any studio, mostly because fans disagree with Warners’ choices for leads, namely Ben Affleck as Batman and Gadot as Wonder Woman.
