The PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony has had a very good week on the Japanese hardware market and has managed to more than triple its sales numbers, buoyed by the launch of a new role-playing game from Namco Bandai, called Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3.

The PSP has posted 106,893 in sales for the week which ended on February 13, according to information from sales tracking firm Media Create, which is significantly more than the 30,475 seen during the previous seven-day period.

The PlayStation 3 is again in second place in the hardware pecking order, managing to increase its sales tally by about 3,000 units in order to reach 26,766.

The Nintendo Wii is in third place, with a very modest rise in sales, from 14,972 to 15,028, while the LL version of the Nintendo DS handheld, which has a bigger screen and two cameras, has also seen an increase in its numbers, to 12,069, even though the launch of the 3DS, the new platform from the company, is very close.

The DSi handheld managed to sell better than the Xbox 360, itself then besting the PlayStation 2, the DS Lite and the PSP Go, which moved just 136 units to gamers.

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3 from Namco Bandai has managed to sell 222,068 units in its first week on the sale and take the first spot in the video-game sales chart.

Another newly launched titled is in second spot, with Samurai Warriors 3 Z from Koei Tecmo managing to sell 208,548 units on the PlayStation 3 home console.

Monster Hunter Freedom 3 from Capcom for the PSP mounted a comeback to get to third place coming from sixth while Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth 2 has slid from first place to fourth, just ahead of Little Big Planet 2, which launched this week on the Japanese market.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Samurai Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, Donkey Kong Country Returns , Kenka Bancho 5: Laws of Manhood and White Knight Chronicles Episode Portable: Dogma Wars.
