The PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony has managed to lead the Japanese hardware chart into 2011, alongside Monster Hunter, with the Media Create numbers for the week which ended on January 2 showing a steady decline all over the board.

The old style PSP has managed to move 99,703 units in seven days, which is a good number but nowhere near the 177,691 it has managed during the previous week, but still topped the hardware chart.

Second place went to the Nintendo Wii home console, which sold 77,307 units, down from 131,761 during the previous period.

The PlayStation 3 has managed to take third place, posting sales of 76,422 coming from 64,228, one of only two devices to see an increase during the period.

The Nintendo DSi is in fourth place coming from third, sales standing in at 48,039, while the LL version of the same console slid down to 47,798 from 92,329.

The PlayStation Portable Go! has managed to increase sales to 9,083, which is better than the DS Lite, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 2.

Overall the hardware market is seeing a slow down which will probably continue all through January and February, before the release of the Nintendo 3DS handheld.

Monster Hunter Portable 3 is the leader when it comes to video game sales, managing to move 283,931 copies during seven days and poised to stay at the top for quite some time from now on.

Second place went to Donkey Kong Country Returns, for the Nintendo Wii, which has gone up one place with sales of 107,487.

Third place was captured by Wii Party, also for the Wii platform, which also gained one place and moved 102,933 copies to gamers.

Fourth place went to AKB1/48: If I loved an Idol from Namco Bandai for the PSP, with sales of 63,513, while fifth is in the hands of Mario Sports Mix, with a little over 58,000 copies arriving in the hands of gamers.

The rest of the top ten includes: Pokemon Black and White, Ni no Kuni: The Ebony Wizard, Inazuma Eleven 3: World Challenge!! The Ogre, The 3rd Birthday and Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3.
