The PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony has managed an impressive increase in sales on the Japanese market, just as other gaming platforms registered drops, because of the launch of a new Monster Hunter titled video games published by Capcom.

The PSP managed to move an impressive 55.112 units during the week that ended on August 29, 2010, almost double the numbers it has posted during the previous seven week period.

The PlayStation 3 pulled a double for manufacturer Sony but it's sales have actually gone down slightly from 27,554 to 25.053.

The DSi LL version, which comes with a biggest then normal screen and with two cameras, is also seeing declining sales, reaching 19,010 coming from 21,179.

The normal DSi sits in fourth spot, with sales of 17,057 while the Nintendo Wii home console is also hurt by the overall downward trend to reach 15,989 after it posted 18,145 during the previous week.

The Xbox 360 is selling better than the PlayStation 2 home console and the PSP Go handheld.

The big video game winner of the week was Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Ailu Village, created by Capcom for the PlayStation Portable, which managed to sell no less than 256,000 units in its first week on sale.

Another new entry, Ace Combat X2: Joint Assault from Namco Bandai and also set for the PSP, managed to take second spot away from Wii Party from Nintendo with sales of 58,000.

The mini games collection now sits in third spot, with sales of 55,000, with last week's top video game Another Century's Episode R also from Namco Bandai, for the PlayStation 3, at number four and Hakuouki: Zuisouroku Portable from Idea Factory rounding up the top five.

The top ten is complemented by: Inazuma Eleven 3: World Challenge!!, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Art Academy, Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X and Sengoku Basara 3.
