The Media Create hardware and video game charts for the week that ended on February 27 confirm that the new 3DS dominated Japan alongside a new release for the PSP.

The exact sales numbers for the Nintendo 3DS stand at 374,764 units in just two days, as previously reported, and will likely continue to post very good results in the coming weeks, as the manufacturer tries to deal with the supply issues that the unexpected demand has created.

The PlayStation Portable could not face the new hardware launch and posted sales of 47,955 units for the week that ended on February 27, which is still a good result given the long-term presence that the device has had on the market.

Unfortunately, the PSP will continue to trail behind the 3DS until the late year launch of the NGP, which Sony sees as a true rival to the new Nintendo handheld.

The PlayStation 3 home console took third place in the hardware chart, with sales of 23,654, while fourth place went to the Wii, with 12,159.

The DSi LL version of the old Nintendo platform is still selling but has seen its numbers drop to 9,093, with the even older DSi standing at 7,802.

The Xbox 360 has edged out the PS2, the PSP Go and the DS Lite.

When it comes to video game sales, Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity for the PlayStation Portable has managed to become the best-selling game in Japan in its first week, with 206,654 units sold and second place also went to a PSP game, SD Gundam G Generation: World, which also on its first week managed to move 192,981 copies to gamers.

Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle is the first Nintendo 3DS game to enter the chart, with just 119,591 units sold, while Disgaea 4 for the PlayStation 3 is in fourth place with sales of 79,425.

The rest of the top ten is made up of Nintendogs + Cats, Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, Ridge Racer 3D, Monster Hunter Freedom 3, The Idolmaster 2.
