The Japanese weekly video game chart has shown an overall slowdown in sales for all the big console hardware players while the video game chart was dominated by the launch of 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei Volume from Namco Bandai.

The Nintendo 3DS handheld has seen the biggest drop of the week that ended on April 8 in order to move just 72,115 units to players, down from a high of 121,921 during the previous week, but has managed to still top the hardware chart.

The PlayStation 3 is continuing to occupy second place, although it has also seen a drop in sales going from 23,771 to just 19,370 while third place in Japan has been occupied by the older PlayStation Portable, which has moved 14,804 devices to gamers, a decline of just under 4,000 units.

The new PlayStation Vita from Sony has again dropped under the 10,000 mark and managed to get just 8,931 handhelds in the hands of their own fans.

The Nintendo Wii sits on 7,099 in sales, a drop of more than 2,000 units, while the Xbox 360 has managed to perform better than the PlayStation 3 and the older DSi versions.

When it comes to video game sales the top position in Japan was occupied by a new entry, 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei Volume, which Namco Bandai launched on the PSP, with sales of 365,439 for its debut week.

The second position on the podium was taken over by last week’s number one, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance from Square Enix, which has managed to move 42,231 copies and it is followed by the PSP version of Pro Baseball Spirits 2012 from Konami, with sales of 26,908.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Pro Baseball Spirits 2012 for the PlayStation 3, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Super Mario 3D Land, Pokemon Conquest, Monster Hunter Tri G, Mario Kart 7 and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics.
