Sony still has surprises planned

We were saying way back (if you remember the ceramic white PS3s) that Japan usually gets the goodies when it comes to PlayStations, while the rest of the world barely receives some bits. If you want another proof, here it is: Sony plans to release a metallic blue version of the PlayStation Portable (two value packs) and a... red version of the PlayStation 2. Now, isn't that strange? Why keep investing in the PS2 if you have to promote PlayStation 3? Probably because the answers are obvious!

The PSP packs, presented by website Kotaku, will be released this summer on the 17th of July in Japan only, and there will be two different flavors: the PSP Metallic Blue Value Pack (pouch, hand strap, cloth, a 32MB Memory Stick Duo, as well as a Terminal Cable) and the PSP Metallic Blue 1 Seg Pack (1 Seg tuner, a pouch in the same blue color that can store the PSP system with the tuner attached, a stand to place the PSP system for TV viewing, strap, cloth, and a 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo).

The new and ultra-red Playstation 2 will be released by Sony on the 3rd of July. The decision was made by Sony following the PS2 "highly successful gaining of enthusiastic support from a broad range of users". Called the "Cinnabar Red" PS2, Sony's to be released console won't care if its first unit was built nine years ago (which is, let's be honest, a lifetime in the games world!). But, having in mind that the PlayStation 3 isn't selling as good as people might have anticipated, as well as the fact that exclusive PS2 games are still released by third party developers, we can understand Sony's decision. Maybe there are some people from Europe or North America who actually envy the Japanese for getting a God of War-like PS2.
