We have seen a few 4K laptops being launched on the market, but what about the 4K tablets? Don’t worry, they won’t be lagging behind a lot.

Japan Display has just announced it has developed a 10.1-inch LCD prototype for tablets, capable of supporting 2,840 x 2,160 pixels (4K2K) in an attempt to bring the standard to the forefront.

And there’s another aspect to be pointed out here, the product makes use of low-temperature poly silicon technology, so the tablet can consume the lowest amounts of energy.

Comparatively, the power consumption has been shrunken down to resemble that of a tablet with a 10.1-inch WQXGA LCD module based on amorphous silicon technology.

So this means, owners of a 4K panel tablet won’t have to give up precious hours of battery life. On the contrary, they will be able to enjoy the same battery life as you’d normally expect to get from a slate.

Anyway, Japan Display has already started shipping the 4K samples out. Back in 2013, the same company developed a 12.1-inch 4K2K LCD module (with 365 ppi). Comparatively, the new model bumps this up and reaches 438 ppi, a standard we might see be implemented in tablets pretty soon.
