The new 3DS XL handheld from Nintendo, which is known as the LL on the Japanese market, has managed to sell no less than 187,480 units during its first week on sale, while New Super Mario Bros. 2, also from Nintendo, managed to top the software chart.

The LL version of the Nintendo device offers both a bigger screen size and a larger battery and, for the week that ended on July 28, the device managed to make a big impact without significantly affecting sales of the normal version of the 3DS.

The other Nintendo handheld sold 42,155 units during the same period, which is just about 2,000 lower than during the previous seven-day period.

The third place in the hardware chart went to the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony, which is essentially flat week over week, while the older PlayStation Portable handheld saw a slight dip, going from 13,058 units to 12,989.

The PlayStation Vita, despite its impressive capabilities, continues to underperform and it managed to move 10,846 devices to gamers, down from 11,932.

The Nintendo Wii is once again past the 10,000 unit mark, ahead of the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the older DS models, who are all under the 1,000 mark.

When it comes to video games, the big winner is New Super Mario Bros. 2 from Nintendo for the 3DS, with sales of 407,503 copies in less than one week.

The second place went to another new entry, Persona 4 Arena from Atlus, with sales of 128,485, while the last position on the software podium was occupied by Nayuta no Kiseki from Falcom, which managed to sell 74,860 units.

The rest of the top ten includes: Pokemon Black & White 2, Super Danganronpa 2, Just Dance Wii 2, Demon Training, Digimon World Re: Digitize, Kirby’s Dream Collection Special Edition and Macross Do You Remember Love Hybrid Pack.
