Next time you think getting drunk and getting married in Las Vegas would make for an awesome combination, think of Janeane Garofalo’s example. In a new interview, the actress reveals she pulled this stunt once – and ended up married for 20 years without even knowing it.

Stranger things are known to have happened, but not to this particular star.

It may sound like something out of a movie, but it’s exactly what happened to Janeane, as she admitted herself in a recent interview cited by PageSix.

Back in the ‘90s, the star got hitched in Vegas with writer Rob Cohen (who later produced “The Big Bang Theory”). They meant it as a joke and neither had any idea that the union was actually legal, they thought getting married would be much more complicated, for lack of a better term.

To her surprise, Janeane had to get divorced just recently because, she found out, the “joke” was as serious as hell.

“Rob and I got married, for real, which we had to have a notary dissolve not 30 minutes before we got here tonight. We were married for 20 years until this evening,” the actress is quoted as saying.

“We got married drunk in Vegas... We dated for a year, and we got married at a drive-through chapel in a cab. [We thought] you have to go down to the courthouse and sign papers and stuff, so who knew?” Janeane further said.

“We were married, and apparently now that [Rob] is getting married for real, his lawyer dug up something,” she added.

Indeed, PageSix mentions, Cohen is engaged to be married to Jill Leiderman, a producer on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Now that he’s just ended his 20-year fake marriage to Janeane, he can start making “real” wedding plans.
