And most charitable as well

Thanks to many years in the public eye as a chef, health campaigner and, of course, television personality, Jamie Oliver is now a household name. What with the launch of a US show as well, Jamie has broken into the list of Britain’s richest men, while also occupying a very respectable position on another list, that of Britain’s most charitable people, Metro informs.

Over the past year, the British chef saw his personal estate expand by £25 million, from £40 million to £65 million, which now ensures him a spot among the top 1,000 richest people in the UK. Most importantly though, Jamie is also a giver, who has already donated over £2 million to various charities, which lands him on the 22nd spot on the second list, that of the most charitable people in England. It’s here that he keeps very good company.

“The celebrity chef, with a personal fortune of £65million, has made it to No.22 on a list of the nation’s greatest givers. Oliver, who makes his debut on the Sunday Times Rich List, has given away £2.7million, which equates to 4.2 per cent of his wealth. Financier Lord Rothschild has donated £11.2million, or 2.88 per cent of his wealth. The Giving List is topped for the third year in a row by hedge fund manager Christopher Cooper-Hohn, who has now given £531.2million – more than six times his own fortune – to the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation,” Metro writes.

“Albert Gubay, who founded the Kwik Save chain, has given away all but £10million of his £480million fortune. And Lord Sainsbury lost his billionaire status after giving another £275.6million to charity. Oliver set up a trust eight years ago to train disadvantaged young people as chefs. Launching it, the 34-year-old said: ‘I was uncomfortable with the success the public had given me. I felt obliged to give something back’,” the same publication informs.

Meanwhile, it would seem that, even though right now Jamie says he has less in his bank account that he did 10 years ago, things are about to take a turn for the better. His US show, “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution,” got off to an amazing start after he put in an appearance on Oprah, who openly praised him and expressed her support for his cause – that of making parents see they’re literally killing their own children by giving them junk food.
