Before Sopranos' star James Gandolfini's death in Italy this Wednesday, the actor went out looking to get a tattoo done in LA.

According to the Studio City Patch, owner Howard Teman of T-Man Tattoos posted the photo featured above on his company's website, documenting Gandolfini's visit. The photo can be seen in full here.

The visit took place on June 1 at the 12216 Ventura Blvd. tattoo shop. TMZ informed that the star told Teman about getting a special tattoo this month, but there is no information about the design of the tat.

Gandolfini had recently moved to Studio City and he was excited about getting inked.

As reported, he passed away at 51 during a trip to Rome.

He traveled to Italy to attend the 59th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily. Initial reports mention that the cause of death is a heart attack.
