James Franco is the latest celebrity to come out in defense of Kristen Stewart, who was thrashed again by some critics for her occasionally wooden performance in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” She did great and deserves praise for it, the actor says.

After seeing the movie, which also stars Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, the actor wrote a review for it for his column in The Huffington Post.

People should just back off Kristen and simply have an objective look at the roles she's been doing as of late.

People have become so accustomed to saying that she can't act and that she will always be Bella Swan from “Twilight,” that they hardly bother to pay enough attention to the other movies she works on, Franco believes.

“The actors are fabulous. The film gives us everything that it should: beauty, danger, romance, action, fantasy and a rewarding ending,” the actor writes in his review.

It's unfair to thrash a movie for not having enough character development when said movie is a fairytale, he goes on to argue. An animation film would be more than allowed to cut corners in this respect, he adds.

Upon further consideration, Franco sees a very striking resemblance between Stewart and the character she plays in “Snow White,” in the sense that both are strong women who take on the world to prove their worth.

“To me, then, the images of Snow White as a leader of immense strength, charging on horseback across the beach at the head of an army, has less to do with her character and more to do with the actress who plays her,” he writes.

“Stewart has braved more scrutiny of her private life than most presidents. She has taken big career risks by doing films like Welcome to the Rileys, The Runaways and On the Road (nudity, I hear). She has worked her [backside] off,” Franco argues.

With that last remark, he's hoping to silence those who say that the only reason Stewart is present on the acting scene is because she was lucky enough to be cast in “Twilight.”

Nothing could be farther from the truth, he says, because Kristen had been working in the industry for long before that. As such, she shouldn't be put down.

“Whatever Snow White may be, Kristen is a warrior queen. Give her the crown,” Franco concludes by saying.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” is now playing in theaters. Our review of the film is here.
