With the “Titanic” re-release, James Cameron managed to push it past the $2 billion (€1.54 billion) threshold at the box office, where his “Avatar” was already sitting comfortably. He is now in a position to crack jokes about who else could come into this exclusive “category.”

In a new interview with MTV News to promote the Blu-ray release of “Titanic,” Cameron jokes about Marvel’s “The Avengers” not being a good match for him in the race for box office supremacy.

On a more serious note, the famous director wishes the same kind of luck he’s been having to other directors as well, because, this way, everybody wins and Hollywood would again be “vibrant.”

“Hopefully a movie will come along next year and show everyone what's possible because that just benefits us all. On the other hand, if that shouldn't happen for another ten years that would be good too,” he laughs.

He does admit though that “The Avengers” came “pretty close.” Check out the video below.
