Sources on the Internet report that iPhone 1.1.3. upgraders now have a viable jailbreak option with iJailbreak 0.5.1. The update to iJailbreak 0.5 that was released just yesterday and, although not tested yet, it "should" fix the segmentation fault errors. Also, the iPhone-only jailbreak requires you to implement bootloader 4.6. It will not function with any other version.

Needless to say, Softpedia doesn't, in any way, encourage jailbreaking your phone (not necessarily your Apple phone), iPod or whatever else they can hack these days. But since the news is already out, we might as well tell you what we've heard.

According to macnn.com, iJailbreak 0.5 caused issues while using with PowerPC-based Macs, particularly resulting in segmentation fault errors. Incremental iJailbreak 0.5.1 "should" resolve these issues, according to ijailbreak.com, but keep in mind that it hasn't been tested yet:

"We've just released iJailBreak 0.5.1, which is now available here at the Google Code page. This is just like the previous release, with some bug fixes and expanded compatibility.

IMPORTANT: There is still no iPod touch compatibility, however that should be expected soon.

By the way, this SHOULD fix some segmentation fault errors."

And if there's no way to convince you that jailbreaks are not very safe and you're going to go with it, the least we can do is advise you to make a backup of all your iPhone content, just in case. Backup can be performed on iTunes, while 1.1.3, just like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, comes as an upgrade, which means that you need to have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone already, before you can begin.

In other "jailbreaking" news, Iliad, a French Internet provider, has recently announced that users of jailbroken iPhones, that are subscribers to its Free brand, will be able to make unlimited calls to French land-line numbers. Those who wish to benefit from the offer will need to install a SIP-VoIP application developed by Touchmods, called Siphon, on their jailbroken Apple phones.
