Eliminates hassle of going through the Settings menu to access the brightness slider

Jailbreaking fans should already be aware of a few brightness adjusting tweaks like Light Bright, SBBrightness, and LockGestures, but they may have missed out on Brightness Icons.

I say that because it’s relatively new on Cydia, the App Store alternative for jailbroken users.

iPhone and iPod touch owners looking to avoid accessing the Settings menu to adjust their screen’s brightness now have the option to download this Cydia tweak and put two icons on their Home screen.

Each icon acts as a button that permits increasing or decreasing the brightness immediately. As image above shows, one icon has a plus on it, while the other has a minus sign.

If I were to think of a certain kind of user that might want this tweak on their iDevice, it would have to be gamers.

Those watching movies extensively on their iPads may also want it, though it would still require pausing the video (or missing a few scenes) to access the icons.

Another drawback is that users need to first install WinterBoard, a component that lets you apply themes to your iPhone, just like what you apply them to a Windows desktop computer.

It was developed by Jay Freeman (aka Saurik) himself, the gatekeeper of Cydia.

As noted above, Brightness Icons may not be the only jailbreak tweak that facilitates easy access to the screen brightness settings of an iPhone.

It is, however, the only one to offer the desired results this fast.

It’s basically the equivalent of having two physical buttons on the right side of your iPhone (opposed to the volume buttons).

Still, with the jailbreak tweak, you may also have to swipe to a new Home screen to access the commands.

It is unclear whether there are any device limitations to installing this tweak.
