Jada Pinkett Smith is the very definition of a disciplined woman: a mother, actress, singer and very busy businesswoman, she has always treated her body like a temple, keeping a very watchful eye over her diet and working out regularly. Still, she too embraces a few extra pounds every once in a while.

Will Smith’s wife made headlines some time ago by saying that, for her, food was not one of life’s pleasures because she chose to regard it as merely fuel for her body. People were shocked to learn how disciplined and strict she was and, at the same time, content that they finally found out the secret to her amazing figure.

Paparazzi photos available online also show just how fit Jada is: aged 42, she sports an enviable six-pack and doesn’t have an inch to pinch on her entire body.

As it turns out, Jada too can gain some weight and, like most of us regular people, she doesn’t like to fret over it or put herself through hell to get rid of the excess pounds as soon as possible.

She posted the photo above on her Facebook timeline: it was snapped a few days ago, and shows Jada, looking absolutely fierce in black leather, with husband Will and daughter Willow on the red carpet at a Las Vegas event.

We wouldn’t be able to tell by the pic, but Jada swears she’s packing some extra weight.

“My girlfriend sent me this pic, and I could clearly see the weight I’ve gained which is about…8-10 pounds [3.6-4.5 kg]. I think I will keep it. I like being a lil…fuller;) Let's just hope it will fit in The Oscars dress. Here's to loving our bodies by our own standards:),” she writes in the post accompanying the photo.

Whether Jada has really gained this much weight or not is not even all that relevant or, at least, not as relevant as the fact that she’s a well-known star who is willing to use her name and platform to raise awareness on the issue of body diversity.

We can’t all look like supermodels on any given day. Most of us can’t – and will never – look like supermodels on our best days, but that doesn’t make us lesser than them in any way. It might sound a cliché but, yes, we’re all unique and special because of it. And beauty does come in all shapes and sizes, and should never be crippled by limitations set by showbiz or the fashion industry.

Kudos to Jada for using her voice for drawing attention to that.
