Get ready to say goodbye to Fish Mooney on Fox’s hit series “Gotham,” aka one of the few characters on the show not to be taken from the comic book universe. In an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael, actress Jada Pinkett Smith confirmed she would not return for a second season, Variety informs.

As Jada puts it, she only signed a contract for one year, so when that year is up, she will be out the door. It’s with somewhat a heavy heart that she leaves a character that allowed her to “tap into her dark side” and explore it at length, but at the same time, she’s eager to get to work on new projects.

She promises there will be plenty of those coming.

On the topic of promises, Jada also says this: “There are some great things coming ahead on Gotham - believe you me, there's a lot of good stuff coming.” Fox has confirmed in a statement that certain “twists” would be coming for Mooney and not only, obviously trying to keep the fans of the series on their toes.

Since this is a character with no connection to the Batman comic book universe, the direction Mooney’s story will take in the final episodes is anybody’s guess. What is certain is that she has a very loyal fanbase, and I imagine these fans will be very upset if she’s killed off - and especially if her exit isn’t handled properly.
