A few hours ago, reports bagan to circulate on the Internet saying “Charlie’s Angels” star Jaclyn Smith had attempted suicide in her Honduras vacation home and was at the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. The reports are false, Smith’s rep tells E! Online, and the actress is safe and unharmed in Los Angeles.

The rumor was started by gossip blogger Perez Hilton, who cited a local newspaper as saying the actress had shot herself to the head in a bid to end her own life. An update on his blog then said that the wound may have been caused by an accident. Either way, Perez claimed, Smith was in critical condition, with close to no hope of surviving. The rumors soon spread from blog to blog and then to other media outlets, until they reached the actress and her management, which is now issuing a denial.

“This is absolutely not true. I just spoke with her today. She is fine and in Los Angeles.” Jay Schwartz, the actress’ spokesperson, says for E! An accident did take place, though, even if it did no involve Smith directly, but someone who was once connected to her. “It was her ‘Charlie’s Angels’ stunt-double, Sandra Franklin, but details are unknown at this time.” Schwartz further says, being unable to offer specifics on the matter.

“Jaclyn is safe and home with her family. She is not in Honduras. It is a lie. Jaclyn is fine. These reports are FALSE.” a post on Smith’s Twitter page also states. However, it doesn’t make any mention of the stunt-double attempting to kill herself, or, for that matter, of the ongoing rumors at all. A Honduran newspaper, though, is now running a story confirming that Franklin is the one to have injured herself, E! says.

Perez Hilton, the one who started the rumor in the first place, has updated his blog to read that it’s Franklin, wife of the producer of the successful television show in which Smith played one of the three leads, who is in critical condition.
