On July 8, 2009, the world will witness one of the most spectacular and highly anticipated comebacks in the history of music, when Michael Jackson will take the stage and kick off the “This Is It” series of live performances. It has been called the “final curtain,” which only makes it more understandable why so many people would rush to buy all tickets for all 50 live dates. One fan who did not get his, though, is Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

According to PR Inside, Martin, a longtime Jackson fan, was positively dying with anticipation for the much-rumored comeback. When BBC broke the news that Michael would officially announce the live dates the next day, Martin admittedly was one of the many fans who thought to themselves “I will go and see him” upon hearing the news. He, for one, waited too long to buy a ticket – but that does not mean he cannot honestly admit that the way fans responded to the announcement is a genuine “testament to talent” for MJ.

“To sell out like that is a testament to talent. It is just amazing to sell out 50 shows in one city in a big arena. It’s the biggest comeback since Lazarus. It’s good news – but not for me.” Martin said in a recent interview, as quoted by the aforementioned publication. “I was looking at it on the Internet and thought, ‘I’d better buy some for myself’ and I couldn’t. They were totally sold out.” the singer further added.

Michael Jackson’s comeback gig, as it is known, has managed to break all known records in the music industry. It sold out all tickets for the 50 dates in a matter of just a couple of hours, and then some on the side. As numbers comprised by BBC revealed, by the time the King of Pop would end his 50th show in February 2010, more than one million people would have seen him live on stage. Similarly, the high demand for tickets has made organizer AEG Live sell an average of 11 tickets per second, which literally has made Michael’s “This Is It” the fastest selling concert ever known to mankind.

With July 8 still a long way to go, chances are more details on what surprises Michael might be preparing for his fans with this tour will emerge. So, keep an eye on this space for more on this.
