The known anti-games lawyer finally left without a job

Jack Thompson was the lawyer who had sued Rockstar Games for their Grand Theft Auto franchise, citing that it incited violence and bad behavior in children. He made a name for himself by blaming violence on games, saying that almost all the crimes in the world have, at cause, video games, and demanded that they be outlawed. Well, no more, as the Florida Bar has approved the disbarment of the lawyer, as a result of the outlandish ways in which he promoted his cases and the launch of unfounded accusations that were never backed up by concrete evidence.

"The Court approves the corrected referee's report and John Bruce Thompson is permanently disbarred, effective thirty days from the date of this order so that respondent can close out his practice and protect the interests of existing clients. If respondent notifies the Court in writing that he is no longer practicing and does not need the thirty days to protect existing clients, this Court will enter an order making the permanent disbarment effective immediately. Respondent shall accept no new business from the date this order is filed." reads the official statement from the Florida Bar. In addition to this sentence, Jack Thompson must also reimburse fees of 43,675.35 dollars to the institution.

In reply, Thompson soon said that the decision was a political one, coming right after he had filed a suit against all the institutions of law in the Florida state. "The timing of this disbarment transparently reveals its motivation: This past Friday Thompson filed a federal civil rights action against The Bar, the Supreme Court, and all seven of its Justices. This rush to disbarment is in retribution for the filing of that federal suit. With enemies this foolish, Thompson needs only the loyal friends he has." reads his official press statement.

In the end, Jack Thompson really had it coming, because after all the media circus he had put up, it was inevitable that the Supreme Court would take action against him. However, he still has the chance of an appeal, so this thing isn't over yet.
