JVC announced its latest 1080p projector. The new DLA-RS1 model provides a resolution of (1920x1080 progressive) and a contrast ratio of 15,000:1. With this product, JVC wants to regain the first position in the world of high-tech projectors aimed at the HD consumers. Sony, Optoma and Epson have already launched a new generation of 1080p native projectors so it was just a question of time before JVC decided to launch a new projector line.

Probably the most interesting part about DLA-RS1 line is the fact that it is the first projector ever to offer a contrast ratio of 15,000:1. As a reminder, Epson's 1080p projector line offers a contrast ratio of 12,000:1. Of course such a capable projector doesn't come cheap with a suggested retail price for DLA-RS1 of almost $6300. In exchange for the money you pay, you're getting a device that can project images on screens ranging from 60" to a whopping 200" in size and a lens that can be shifted up to 80% vertically and 34% horizontally. Among the standard features dual HDMI inputs are included, a HD analogic component and even composite and S-video interfaces used for inputting SD content. DLA-RS1 is said to start shipping in the beginning of 2007.

In case the new projector from JVC sounds too expansive you could try PowerLite Pro Cinema's 1080p projector that comes with a contrast ratio of 12,000:1 a lower price tag of about $5000. Or maybe you could try a 720p model which is significantly cheaper but will display 1080p content only in 720p resolutions. JVC will also offer a 10,000:1 model starting with the spring of 2007.
