Russian Bolshoi Ballet star soloist Pavel Dmitrichenko has attacked and permanently scarred the theater's artistic director, Sergei Filin, with sulphuric acid.

The assault occurred on January 16, and has left Filin severely injured, and possibly never working again. He is currently receiving treatment in Germany, and may have permanently lost his eye sight.

Dmitrichenko along with accomplices Andrei Lipatov and Yuri Zarutsky have been under investigation for the acid attack for a while, City News notes.

On Wednesday, March 6, a spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of the Interior has released the video posted above, of Dmitrichenko confessing to the crime.

“I masterminded this attack, but not to the extent it eventually happened,” he says.

Dmitrichenko is known for his lead roles in Swan Lake and Ivan the Terrible, NBC News writes, and has been compared to his character in the latter production.

His motivation for the crime has been anger over Filin refusing to cast Dmitrichenko's girlfriend, ballerina Anzhelika Vorontsova, in leading roles.
