Google Earth Enterprise is a different version of the famous mapping tool that brings more power to a new segment of users, offering them geospatial tools as well as other utilities meant to provide better performance. The new version of Google Earth brings a lot of changes starting with new browser integration and ending with improved security for several operating systems. First of all, Google Earth Enterprise works faster than the previous versions and, according to Noah Doyle, Product Manager, Enterprise Geospatial Products, it offers "a 10x speedup for vector data processing and better than 2x reduction in server computation for responding to imagery requests."

Then, the mapping tool is now safer to use on numerous platforms such as Red Hat Enterprise Server 4 and SUSE Linux 9 and 10 as the Google employee wrote. In addition, the browser integrations were also improved, allowing anybody to embed 2D views in a web service in a matter of minutes.

"So with a goal of extending the benefits of our geo products to organizations, this release takes a big step toward embracing a broader range of users inside organizations. It provides custom database support with Google Maps-style 2D views as well as a traditional 3D view. And it seamlessly marries Google's hosted geo services with the ability to publish custom databases behind the firewall so users can enjoy the best of both worlds," Noah Doyle added.

However, you should know Google Earth Enterprise requires some advanced hardware resources such as NVIDIA, ATI, 3D Labs, Intel, Matrox or S3 graphics card. Also, you must know that ATI Rage Mobility, ATI Xpert and ATI 3D Rage are not supported. For example, the recommended configuration for the Windows platforms is a Windows XP system with Pentium 4 2.4GHz+ or AMD 2400xp+, 512MB RAM, 2GB free space and 1280x1024, "32-bit True Color" screen.
