Dodecahedral subwoofer

We've been telling you about some new loudspeakers that look like they've been taken from the C-class Sci-Fi movies, sporting an enclosure in the shape of a 12-faceted polyhedron, a dodecahedron by its name. Some guys in Sao Paolo-Brazil have built a dodecahedral loudspeaker and JVC has had one designed as well and even if these audio units have not reached yet a mass-production stage, their measurements and tech specifications seem to surpass those of the classic-shape loudspeakers.

It's time to introduce you the perfect complement for your 12-sided loudspeakers, the Dodecasub from Elemental Designs.

Needless to add we're dealing with a dodecahedral subwoofer, the one and only, the first of them all. Elemental Designs have managed to create a 10-driver subwoofer that promises a bass delivery never before experienced; the new design sports a 12-sided cabinet resting on 5 spiked feet for exceptional decoupling from the floor: just think of your common sub at home, running on one or two drivers and the vibrations it produces... and multiply everything 5 or 10 times!

The cabinet is closed and works in a dipole scheme, with half of the drivers in phase (those front-firing) while the rest of them are out-of-phase for a correct alignment and better sound development. At the same time, the woofers sport concave cones for a more efficient air displacement and have a very serious 15mm excursion, precisely adjusted by the generous rubber surrounds.

Even if the Dodecasub can blast a wall-wrecking max power of 6,000W RMS, it has been designed to deliver the awesome amount of pure bass to a relatively small area, thus limiting the pleasure of listening to the people in the room. This movie will tell you more about the principles that are at the base of the Dodecasub and what it can do. There is no word on pricing yet but if you plan to have this sub rocking hard, prepare to greet the SWAT teams - your neighbors will surely call them.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
