Weird suggestions provided by Google

Google's search suggestions have always been a dispute subject as they provided pretty weird search alternatives for numerous queries entered in the search box. This time, it is about Israel, a country which Google thinks that is 'a terrorist state', evil and even illegal. Have a look at the picture attached to this article. The Google Suggest tool displays these suggestions every time you type 'Israel is' in the search query. Search Engine Roundtable wrote about this and quoted a small snippet from the Google FAQ in order to prove it is only an automated system and no sign of human mistake.

"Our algorithms use a wide range of information to predict the queries users are most likely to want to see. For example, Google Suggest uses data about the overall popularity of various searches to help rank the refinements it offers. An example of this type of popularity information can be found in the Google Zeitgeist. Google Suggest does not base its suggestions on your personal search history," it is said in the Google FAQ as Search Engine Roundtable mentioned.

I admit the Google Suggest tool is only a part of the Google Labs but sometimes they can use real trouble for the parent company. However, this is not the only feature which caused problems for Google as the 'Did you mean' function also provided some weird suggestions. As you might remember, searching on Google for the 'she invented' query returned a 'Did you mean he invented' suggestions which made numerous Internet users accuse the search giant of being a misogynist search engine.

Anyway, Google encourages the consumers to contact the company as soon as they discover a strange suggestion in the results. "We apologize for the upsetting nature of the experience you had using Google and appreciate your taking the time to inform us about it," the Mountain View company states.
