The One Laptop per Child organization will soon see its website outfitted with a new online community which will serve as central resource for the global members of OLPC. The non-profit organization enlisted the services of Isobar_Molecular in its plans to develop a suitable platform for this community, which is set to be entirely based on open source tools and technology, elements which will allow it to successfully play this important role of main resource.

The structure will be easily searchable and will allow any members to quickly and easily locate the support, resources and information required for their individual projects, while also providing the possibility for posting updates and share results. OLPC members will also have the option of finding and joining groups that appeal to them. Further stages of the project will further integrate more social features into the joint effort in order to automate the connection process of members and projects.

“When we began working with OLPC and discovered how many different parties are involved in their great work, we knew we needed to create a tool that uses the social nature of the web to spark greater communication and collaboration” said Molecular Senior Vice President Scott Savitt. “We’re thrilled to help OLPC create an online community site that will move projects to completion faster, getting these laptops and tools into the hands of the children around the world who need them.”

OLPC is a non-profit organization which aims to assist children in developing countries to become familiar with technology, “learn learning” as it were. Opting for the services of Isobar is perfectly in line with the project's nature, as the global network (to which the company Molecular belongs and which was initially launched as a digital division of Aegis Media in May 2003) is uniquely structured for an interconnected digital world. This project will be the next stage in OLPC's efforts to provide all the children in the world with modern forms of education by supplying them with XO laptops which are rugged, solar-powered and capable of forming connections with each other and the Internet.
