Marc Newson seemingly has his hands in a lot of products lately, including the highly-anticipated Apple Watch

Steve Jobs used to call him a "spiritual partner," and for good reason too – both shared a vision of the future through design.

Remember how you felt when Apple lost Steve Jobs and Tim Cook was instated as CEO? Well, there’s an ever-so-slight chance that something similar will happen again in the Apple organization, this time in the designer ranks.

Apple's designer for decades

Apple has been boasting Jony Ive’s amazing designs for decades, but it may finally be time for the knighted Brit to pass on his legacy to someone else so he can spend more time with his family.

Like other executives before him, Ive would probably never leave Apple before the company hired someone just as competent to fill his shoes. And it seems they did just that earlier this year, when the Cupertino juggernaut took Marc Newson aboard.

We’ll admit this is mere speculation on our behalf, but we find it strange that at least two Apple designs have so far been attributed to Newson, including the iPhone 5c “croc” cases (bearing a striking resemblance to the Newson-designed Zvezdochka Nike sneakers) and the Apple Watch, which industrial designer Bradley Price reckons is 100% the work of Marc Newson.

Doesn't want to "inherit" Apple

Perhaps also worth noting is that Ive doesn’t see himself in a leadership position at Apple. Well, at least not one where he doesn’t command other designers. According to Leander Kahney’s book, “Jony Ive: The Genius Behind Apple's Greatest Products,” one former member of his design team said “Jony doesn't care about all those aspects of running a company.”

Indeed, Ive seems like the kind of chap who wants to leave his mark on humanity, not let his life be run by corporate interests.
