Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims to have successfully hacked a foreign spy drone during the Payambar-e Azam 8 (The Great Prophet 8) military exercises.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, IRGC monitored and controlled all foreign spy drones in the area during the wargames. The country to which the hijacked drone belongs has not been named.

However, it’s worth noting that, while IRNA hasn’t specifically pointed this out, the foreign spy drone brought down during the exercise is hypothetical, Reuters reports.

The military unit’s representatives have highlighted the importance of electronic war capabilities. They say they’re in the process of hypothetically targeting other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as well.

“In the other phases of the wargames, the reconnaissance as well as suicide drones, which are capable of attacking the enemies, have been used and their operational capabilities came under assessment,” said spokesman of the Wargames, General Hamid Sarkheili, according to FARS.

The wargames are aimed at maintaining and improving the IRGC’s combat capabilities.
