There are many storage devices, internal and external, ready to serve personal computers, but storage solutions developers have not forgotten about Mac systems, as shown by Iomega's most recent act.

Iomega has many portable hard drives, and drives of other kinds, on sale and on the way, and it looks like its latest release for Apple lovers has arrived.

More specifically, Iomega created what bears the fairly self-explanatory moniker of Mac Companion Hard Drive.

Essentially, it is a hard disk that can connect to a Mac System and allow it full access to the 2 TB or 3 TB of storage it possesses.

The rotary speed of the platters is 7,200 RPM (rotations per minute) and the form factor is the 3.5-inch, meaning that it is not exactly 'portable' like 2.5-inch ones.

Then again, the product has a certain advantage that will likely sit well with owners of iPods, iPads or iPhones, namely special, high-powered ports to recharge these gadgets when needed.

Furthermore, four LEDs on the front can show just how much of the capacity is already occupied, while protection is granted via Iomega QuikProtect and MozyHome Online Backup (2 GB free online storage).

"With the new Iomega Mac Companion Hard Drive, Mac users now have a convenient and stylish way to quickly charge their iPads with the bonus of plenty of new storage capacity for their Mac computer," said Jonathan Huberman, president of Iomega Corporation.

"With more than nine million iPads sold in the last quarter alone, the new Mac Companion Hard Drive is the perfect complement for all those iPad owners. This futuristic drive blends effortlessly with the latest Mac computers and the Apple ecosystem of mobile devices. Together, form and function rarely looks as good or works as well as the new Iomega Mac Companion Drive."

The Iomega Mac Companion Hard Drive is sold for $195 (2 TB) or $295 (3 TB).
