14 DAY TRIAL // Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia, the largest handset vendor in the world, announced today the introduction of yet another affordable device for its users, the Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition. According to the company, the new handset comes to the market as its most affordable mobile phone to include GPS capabilities and support for the Nokia Maps.
“The new phone is expected to be popular in the developed and developing world alike and has been developed with urban environments, small towns, as well as rural areas in mind. Incorporating straight line navigation with the assistance of an integrated digital compass, it also includes turn-by-turn driving navigation with full voice guidance,” a recent post on the Nokia Press Bulleting Board states.
According to the leading mobile phone maker, the latest trends among handset users show a wide adoption of location-based services, which are meant to offer them the possibility to enjoy both communications and navigation capabilities on the same device. At the same time, the company notes that its Nokia Maps is set to deliver “the broadest navigation coverage of any competitor.”
Moreover, Nokia mentions that one of the main focuses, when it comes to a location-based service, is the local relevancy of the experience the service can deliver to users as it becomes available in new markets. Thus, Nokia is set to add new countries so as to make its Nokia Maps capable of delivering a great experience to a wider range of users. “As the cost and availability of data connections is sometimes limited, relevant maps are included on the device to ensure that even if there is no access to an internet connection, the device can still be used,” the company further reveals.
The Finnish handset vendor also announced that the new Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition is expected to become available for purchase sometime in the second quarter of the next year, and that its estimated retail price is of EUR 110.
