American toy manufacturing company Mattel is happy to introduce the world to one of the latest additions to its “Dolls of the World” collection: a Barbie wearing a traditional mariachi costume, complete with sombrero and ornate suit.

“Barbie wears a fitted black bolero jacket and cropped trousers trimmed in intricate golden brocade that mirrors the pattern on her impressive, wide-brimmed sombrero,” Mattel describes the outfit, as cited by BuzzFeed.

“Flourishes include a brilliant pink tie, low ponytail and tall black boots,” the American toy manufacturing company goes on to explain. 'Cause, you known, no Barbie doll is complete unless it's wearing something pink.

The doll, pictured in the photo accompanying this article, was launched just in time for Mexican Independence Day on September 16. It is currently on sale in Mexico and Latin America, and many appear to have taken quite a liking to it.

Then again, word has it that there are some people who are not exactly happy about the fact that Mattel seems to be quite fond of cultural stereotypes that many consider not only outdated, but also offensive.

In fact, two previous dolls, i.e. a Barbie wearing a pink traditional dress and carrying a Chihuahua under her arm, and a Barbie dressed in a colorful fiesta dress both sparked quite a lot of controversy when launched.
