More Android smartphones are getting launched in India this week. After Micromax and Karbonn announced that new products would go on sale in the next few days, it’s Intex’s turn to unveil a new device, the Aqua HD.

As the name suggests, Intex Aqua HD will be released with a 4.7-inch HD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. Moreover, the phone’s display features Corning Gorilla Glass coating for extra protection against scratches.

According to Intex, the smartphone will be powered by Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Unfortunately, this one is less likely to receive any update to a newer version of Android, so be prepared to be stuck on 4.2.1 OS if you really want the Intex Aqua HD.

Hardware-wise, the Aqua HD can compete with any other mid-range Android smartphone launched in India, so in the end it’s a matter of taste and perception over the brand.

The device is powered by a decent 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589 processor, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.

Although users will only get less than 1GB of storage at their disposal, Intex has added a microSD card slot that allows owners of the phone to further expand storage up to 32GB.

Another strong point of the Intex Aqua HD is the impressive 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. There’s also a secondary 5-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

The smartphone comes with dual-SIM support (GSM + WCDMA), 3G HSPA+ and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS support.

Last but not least, Intex Aqua HD is powered by an 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. No word on pricing options and availability yet, but stay tuned for more updates on this one.
