A new very cheap Android-based handset from Intex is now official in India, in the form of Intex Aqua 3G, which sports a price tag of only Rs. 3,555 ($59/€43.5).

The new device follows a recently unveiled paired of very affordable phones coming from Celkon and Karbonn, and it is expected to appeal to a lot to users looking to upgrade from a feature phone to a smartphone.

Featuring only a 4-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution, the new mobile phone also offers the compact form factor that those accustomed to feature phones might be looking for.

However, the new device still includes pretty decent hardware specifications for the market segment it is aimed at, starting with a dual-core processor that has been clocked at 1GHz.

Another important feature of this handset is the fact that it comes with support for 3G networks, which makes it one of the cheapest smartphones in India to offer such capabilities, as fonearena notes.

Unfortunately, the new Intex Aqua 3G includes only 256MB of RAM, which won’t deliver impressive performance capabilities, that’s for sure. The handset also features 512MB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage.

The specs list of this handset also shows a 2-megapixel camera on the back, paired with a 0.3MP front camera. The same as other devices from the company, the new handset lands on shelves with dual-SIM capabilities as well.

Additionally, it arrives with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, built-in GPS receiver, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, and a 1400mAh battery.

Those who will choose to purchase the new mobile phone will enjoy only the capabilities of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on it, which might be rather disappointing, as there’s little chance that the handset will receive an update to a newer platform iteration.

“There has been a vast majority of country’s users who are migrating to smartphones from feature phones, it has become imperative for the industry to match the needs of tech savvy customers in India,” Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, business head, Mobiles, says.

“We at Intex are at the forefront to innovate and offer products which promises the customers seamless functioning and unbeatable browsing experience at a rock bottom price. Aqua 3G is a marvel from Intex basket which will enable users to stay connected with the world all the time.”

The new Intex Aqua 3G will become available for purchase in Black, Silver and White color options, through the company’s own retail stores, as well as via hypermarkets and leading e-commerce portals in the country, it seems.
