When 47-year-old Susan Boyle took the stage over the weekend on “Britain’s Got Talent,” the public expected to see just what was in front of their eyes: the typical cat-lady about to expose herself to public ridicule with her make-believe singing, making the delight of millions across the world. In what MTV labels “the new underdog sensation,” the “hairy angel” sang – YouTube then turned her into an overnight superstar, with her videos summing over six million views in just a couple of days.

Since Susan Boyle sang “I Dreamed a Dream,” the offers have not stopped piling up for her. Simon Cowell himself, the man who rarely compromises when it comes to music, is said to be working hard to provide the Scottish single woman whose only friends seem to be her cat Pebbles and other churchgoers with a contract with a label. As of now, though, Boyle remains silent on all the alleged offers and interview requests.

“Unemployed Susan, from West Lothian in Scotland, has now received interview requests from as far away as Australia and the US. She even featured on America’s prestigious NBC Today Show – where a presenter cried as she watched the clip. And although Susan has only made it through the first audition she is already being compared to previous Britain’s Got Talent winner opera star Paul Potts. Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell is reportedly already lining up a record deal for her, and she has helped boost the song’s popularity. Cast recordings of the track have entered the official midweek singles chart and the iTunes chart. Susan is already the bookmakers’ favorite to win the talent show, with odds of 5/2.” the British tab the Daily Mail says of the rapid – but altogether well-deserved – rise to fame of the “angel.”

Among the many fans that have taken to the Internet to express their admiration for such an instance of immense talent is also celebrity couple Ashton Kutcher – Demi Moore. The two stars, who are very active on Twitter, saw Boyle on the show and were so impressed by her performance that they posted links to her YouTube videos, urging all their fans to see the latest singing sensation.

Susan Boyle, though, seems to remain unfazed by the astounding reaction. She’s the biggest thing the music industry – and showbiz in general – has seen in years, yet she says she only sings because she knows it would have pleased her late mother, for whom she cared until her final days. “Because of the bereavement, I had decided to give up singing. Mum was my life – I cared for her. But she urged me to enter this show as she said I had a fantastic voice. So this year I thought I’d go for it – and I can’t believe what has happened. I hope my mum and dad are looking down on me – they’ll be so proud.” Boyle told the Mail shortly after receiving a standing ovation on the popular talent competition.
