Locate videos on the map

Google creates interoperability between multiple solutions designed by the company such as Google Talk and Gmail, but have you ever asked yourself if a Google Maps - YouTube compatibility is possible? It seems like the answer is positive, but it isn't quite an official one. iCommunity.TV, a service founded by Chris Haller, director of eParticipation.com, represents an interesting mashup of the two services provided by the search giant. Although it uses a different name, iCommunity.TV displays certain YouTube videos on a Google Map with the entire world.

"iCommunity.TV is a collaborative broadcast network for local news, built with the intention to promote video as a media for citizen reporting. As an aggregation platform iCommunity.TV ties into the popular video-sharing service Youtube.com, extends its offering by letting a broad audience geo-reference and sort video clips in news categories and offers multiple convenient ways to watch and subscribe to these custom channels (e.g. "Politics in Berlin, Germany"). All news clips on the site are geo-referenced with a Google Map showing their location next to them, as well as a World News Map," Google Maps Mania described the service.

Personally, I find this service quite interesting but totally useless because a service that locates certain videos on a geographic map requires a lot of time to use and find a specific movie. "Our effort is focused on developing an aggregation platform that ties into video-sharing platforms like Youtube.com, extends their services by letting anyone georeference and sort video clips in news categories, and offers multiple convenient ways to subscribe to and watch these custom channels (e.g. "Politics in Berlin, Germany")," the developers said about the mashup.

So, if you want to test this combination of Google Maps and YouTube video service, click on this link and find the movies on your desired location.
