Remember the Pinch Trojan? God, it has been one of the most popular Trojan horses I have even seen and this because it was able to steal email, ICQ and other login credentials and send them to the attackers. Well, it seems that the two Russian virus writers who created the Pinch Trojan have been identified and the police is now preparing to send the case to the court, a post on the Viruslist.com weblog reads. Nikolay Patrushev, head of the Federal Security Servicesm, confirmed the report and added for the same source mentioned above that this represented one of the measures taken by the local authorities in the fight against cybercrime.

But, let's get back to the Pinch Trojan. Although its creators are now in trouble, it seems like several variants of the infection are still available on the web. "Anyone who wants can order a customized version of the Trojan, and also get 'technical support' from the authors of the program. Russian hacker forums were flooded with advertisements for this 'service'," Aleks, the author of the post at Viruslist.com, mentioned.

"A mass of script-kiddies clearly found the idea attractive - get a functional spy program for a mere few dollars. As a result, the Internet became flooded with Pinch modifications. Our antivirus databases currently contain more than four thousand variants."

Certainly, the Pinch Trojan represented one of the biggest threats this year and we may see some new avalanches of infection coming anytime soon. There have already been four thousands of variants, according to the same source. "Our antivirus databases currently contain more than four thousand variants." Sure, they will be based on the main Pinch Trojan, so just remember to keep your antivirus up-to-date and deploy the latest virus definitions, in order to detect any sign of infection.
