It seems that Intel plans to extend its mobile microprocessors line with the launch of some new models during August. The addition also includes Intel's first Core 2 Extreme quad core, announced for an August 17th launch. The Core 2 Extreme QX9300 processor features a 45W TDP and will definitely need serious cooling.

The new Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 has a core clock set at 2.53GHz and comes with a 1066 front side bus and 12MB of cache memory. The quad core processor is slated for release only two days before IDF 2008 is scheduled to begin.

When it comes to price, the new Core 2 Extreme is anything but cheap. This mobile processor has been announced to come with a price set no lower than $1038, which is breath taking. To make a comparison, a dual core mobile chip featuring 2.53GHz clock speed costs $340, which is approximately three times less than QX9300.

According to other sources from the quad core field, though on the desktop area this time, Intel is also on its way to release another processor, called Core 2 Quad Q8200. The CPU will have a 2.33GHz core clock and is planned for introduction on the 31st of August.

The CPU will have a 1333 front side bus and will feature a 4MB of cache memory. According to Intel, the price for this quad core CPU will be set at $224. Actually, it seems that this is the valid price when thousands of units are purchased.

Even so, is looks that Q8200 will be the cheapest quad core processor under the 45nm fabrication technology line. The 2.5GHz Q9300 and the 2.66GHz Q9400 chips will still be selling for $266. Those interested in the new Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 CPU will have to wait at least another month to get their hands on it.
