The next unit of computing can be housed in this aluminum and ABS box

Intel may not have survived on the motherboard market, but it still wants to establish itself on the small form factor PC front.

The Next Unit of Computing (NUC) is one of the better-known Intel products in that field, though it is, ironically, owed more to all the companies that made different cases for it than Intel itself.

As it happens, Streamcom has just revealed an enclosure of the sort, made of ABS plastic and aluminum.

It acts as a heatsink for the NUC's CPU and PCH. It even has a universal CPU block, so the case can adapt to future NUC boards with CPUs placed elsewhere.

There will be both silver and carbon-black versions, both with ports mapped for two HDMI connectors, three USB ports, power and Ethernet. They will arrive at some point in Q2 2013.
