The Kaylo to be powered by 3000 and 3010 chipsets

According to recent updates released by Intel on its web site, the manufacturer's latest chipset INF Update Utility will also feature support for the future to come Intel 3000 and 3010 processor line-ups, writes Daily Tech.

Moreover, the Intel 3000 and 3010 chipsets, previously codenamed Mukilteo 2 and Mukilteo 2P, are in fact part of the maker's Kaylo single socket server platforms that will be retailed as AMD's F Opteron challengers.

"The Intel 3000 and 3010 chipsets are designed for use with Intel Pentium 4 processor 600 Sequence, Intel Pentium D processor 800 Sequence and 900 Sequence, Intel Celeron D, in the LGA775 package in entry-level UP server platforms. The chipset contains two components: Memory Controller Hub (MCH) and Intel I/O Controller Hub 7 (ICH7). The MCH provides the interface to the processor, main memory, PCI Express, and the ICH7. The ICH7 is the seventh generation I/O Controller Hub and provides a multitude of I/O related functions," it is written on the manufacturer's web site.

Moreover, the Intel 3000 chipset supports one PCI Express x8 port, as the Intel 3010 chipset supports two PCI Express x8 ports or one PCI Express x16 port.

Both chipsets were officially launched on August 20, at $51 and $59, respectively.
