Research In Motion (RIM) has launched the first version of BlackBerry device that is produced in partnership with Intel. BlackBerry 8700c, codenamed Electron, will be offered initially exclusively through Cingular Wireless, the no. 1 mobile carrier in USA. This new device will be available from 21st of November, 2005.

RIM and Intel had announced in September that they were to form a partnership for producing this device that uses a high-end Intel mobile processor.

This will be also the first BlackBerry to run on EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) networks. EDGE is a mobile standard that allows users to connect to the Internet and send and receive data faster than via traditional networks, but slower than in 3G networks.

BlackBerry 8700c will be available for 299 USD, for the clients that will make a two-year contract.

The RIM launch is made in a period when rivals as Microsoft, Palm, Motorola and Nokia develop technologies and products for mobile e-mail, because the corporate market needs this kind of devices.

RIM tries to keep up with its rivals, although the company's stocks have reached last month the lowest level since May 2004.
