Which dissipate less heat

Intel is planning to launch during the next IDF conference a new series of Xeon dual core processors, whose main feature is the low amount of dissipated heat.

The presentation of the new Xeon dual core models, code-named Sossaman, will be made by Intel's CEO, Paul Otellini, and the company hopes to endow the data centers with the same technology proposed for the notebooks. Sossaman Xeon dual core processors are scheduled for the first half of next year.

With the new line of Intel processors, Intel is trying to deal with the criticisms come from system producers, which consider that Intel processors generate too much heat.

At the same IDF, Otellini is expected to present more details about Yonah, the next dual core Pentium intended for mobile systems, which will have a reduced current consumption, ensuring a double battery life.

For example, the battery of a notebook equipped with a Yonah processor would ensure an operating time of 8 hours, compared to the 4 hours, obtained with the current Pentium M. Yonah is scheduled for the first quarter of 2006.

Analysts are estimating that by the end of the year, 85% of the Intel processors for servers and 70% of those for notebooks will be based on dual-core technology.
