The chip maker doesn’t really give a viable reason to justify its decision

Back in 2011 Intel launched its dedicated netbook app store, called AppUp which over-time came to include applications for Ultrabooks, laptops and desktops, as well.

If you were a fan of the service, it will probably sadden you to know Intel has set up an execution date for AppUp, scheduling to discontinue it on March 11.

The official notice reads as follows.

“An Intel, we’re always thinking about the future, which often means making changes today. That’s why, on March 11, 2014, Intel AppUp center will come to a close as we focus on developing new and exciting PC innovations that will continue to shape your world.”

After the store closes down, Intel notes most installed applications will continue to work as normal, but obviously users will have to launch them via their desktop icon and not the store’s portal. Those applications which need to communicate with the AppUp client to function won’t work after May 15, 2015.

Furthermore, customers can also choose to get refunds for the paid apps, so if you’re disappointed by the news you have between January 28 and December 19 to claim your money back.
