The company has published some product change notices to this effect

Companies may not put together press releases whenever they stop making certain products, but they do have certain document databases where such information is published, and Intel's has just gotten a few updates.

According to the product change notifications that Chipzilla published on its website, soon enough, there will be nine fewer chips up for sale.

Two of them are Ivy Bridge chips, while the other seven are part of the Bay Trail series and, rather than CPUs (central processing units), qualify as SoCs (system-on-chip devices).

The two Ivy Bridge chips will be leaving us by August 22. Which is to say, that is the final day when you can still place orders for them.

One of the processors is the quad-core Core i7-3840QM, with a clock speed of 2.8 GHz, and the other is the Core i7-3740QM, with 2.7 GHz frequency.

They sound pretty strong, and they are, but they are old at this point. The Haswell line has come into its own, and Broadwell isn't even a year away, so it's natural for chips to start phasing out.

The Bay Trail SoCs are spread across the Pentium and Celeron lines (no Atoms this time, surprisingly enough).

There's the 2.0 GHz Pentium N3150 and the 2.41 GHz Pentium J2850, plus the Celeron N2910 (1.6 GHz), Celeron N2810 (2 GHz), Celeron J1850 (2 GHz), Celeron N2805 (1.46 GHz) and the J1750 (2.41 GHz).

All the processors will stay up for order until August 22, as we said before, and shipments will continue until February 6, 2015, but there are three exceptions: Pentium N3510, J2850 and Celeron N2910. These will only be available until February 21, and shipments will conclude on April 25, 2014.

The Core i7 chips are the only ones you're likely to find up for order. The others are mostly OEM parts (sold only as part of mini PCs or other pre-made systems).
