Sales of personal computers are declining, and this is something that everyone other than consumers themselves has been bemoaning. Intel says the worst is gone though, for now anyway.

During its report about its not-altogether-stellar financial results, Intel said that while PC sales didn’t recover, and probably wouldn't, they were stabilizing.

The company CEO Brian Krzanich also said that tablets were shipping well enough to make up for the drop in desktop and laptop PC demand. It's a good thing for it that it has more tablet design wins than a couple of years ago.

Moving forward, Intel will try to make up for the drop in PC sales through sales of the “Edison” SD card-sized PC and related devices. The CEO said that shipments would start later this year, mostly in the second quarter, and that they hoped that tablet chip sales would reach 40 million in 2014.
