Intel makes a point of launching a new batch or two of central processing units and chipsets each year, among other things. As such, it has made a habit of hosting a special event meant to outline the roadmap that the company has in place. The event is known as IDF, or Intel Developer Forum, and will, this year, be held in September at the Moscome Center West, in San Francisco. There, executives will discuss not only generalities, but also the major product plans that have been set in place.

IDF will be held between September 13 and 15. On the first day, the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Paul Otellini will talk about the so-called 'Computing Continuum' that his company adheres to. His speech will be immediately followed by a 'deep dive' by David Perlmutter, executive vice president and general manager, Intel Architecture Group.

The company will only start getting into specifics on the second day though. Doug Davis, vice president and general manager of Intel's Embedded and Communications Group and Renee James, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Software and Services Group, will take the word. They will speak about the now famous Atom CPU and what devices it will end up in. Finally, on the last day, Intel's future plans will be outlined by Justin Rattner, Intel's chief technology officer.

“You want to be there when the future happens,” said Mark Erwin, IDF global events manager. “IDF is your chance to collaborate with peers, experience the latest technology and exchange ideas about the future. Each day of this forward-looking conference is packed with important technical information and insights from experts.”

Topics of discussion include cloud computing, eco-technology, the Core Series of processors, health care IT, SSDs, USB 3.0, PCI Express, visual computing and the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface. OF course, the Sandy Bridge architecture will also be a major subject.
