ASUS has just announced its latest addition to the already vast Eee family of netbook systems, the Eee PC 1000HE, coming to provide users with a 10-inch display and the computing power of Intel's next-generation mobile Atom processor, the Atom N280. The new netbook should provide a better performance level than previous generation models, as it equips a new processor combined with an HD-capable GD40 chipset. In addition, the company also announced that the new Eee PC 1000HE was available for pre-order.

Unlike other Eee PC models, the new 10-inch 1000HE takes advantage of Intel's latest Atom N280 processor, clocked at 1.66GHz and paired with the HD-capable GD40 chipset. The new netbook comes with a LED-backlit display, offers a 160GB hard drive and WiFi b/g/n connectivity. ASUS has equipped its latest netbook with a slightly different keyboard, which should apparently allow for a faster and more comfortable typing experience. Additionally, the company has included 10GB of Eee Online storage space and integrated Bluetooth 2.0 and webcam.

With the new netbook, ASUS also claims that the Eee PC 1000HE, when combined with the company's own Super Hybrid Engine technology, can provide its users with an impressive 9.5 hours of battery life. However, real-life situations could reduce that number to half, especially when the netbook's WiFi, Bluetooth and webcamera are turned on and the LCD brightness is set to 100%.

Price-wise, you are looking at a netbook that is now available for pre-order at an MSRP of $399, with a “limited time” $25 off for any orders placed today. In North America the Eee PC 1000HE will be available in Fine Ebony Black and Blue color options. Details on when the netbooks will end up in the hands of their respective users are yet to emerge, but the company will likely be showcasing the system at the CeBIT show next month.
