The chips will be unveiled along with compatible motherboards based on Intel X99 Express

Last month, it was revealed that the Devil’s Canyon processors weren't the only high-end Haswell chips to arrive this year, but they were to be joined by the Core i7 HEDT (high-end desktop) too.

The lineup got detailed not so long ago, giving us a glimpse at what we could expect from this hard-core motherboards and central processing units. But a piece of info was missing – exactly when the new chips will arrive.

Now, the folks over at VR-Zone are saying (based on a leaked internal Intel document) that the Haswell-E HDT processor and their respective compatible motherboards based on the Intel X99 Express chipsets will be introduced on September 14, 2014. The lineup includes the six-core Core i7-5820K and i7-4930K plus the eight-core i7-5960X.

The main characteristic of these chips is that they will be overpowered and offer superior performance than even the Devil’s Canyon CPU lineup.

The most impressive in the lineup is, of course, the 8-core Core i7-5960X with 16 logical CPUs (via HyperThreading technology), 20MB L3 cache memory and clock speeds of 1.2GHz and bursts up to 3GHz.

The eight cores take advantage of 20MB L3 cache and 40-lane PCI-express root complex (with support for quad GPU setups in x8/x8/x8/x8 mode with an extra x8 link dedicated to SSDs). The thermal design power (TDP) is said to rest at 140W.

Moving on, we find the Core i7-5930K with a slightly less impressive six core. The chip has “only” 15MB cache memory, HyperThreading and clocks at a base 1.2GHz with bursts going as far as 3.5GHz. The architecture takes advantage of the same fully-fledged PCle root complex mentioned above.

Last but not least arrives the Core i7-5820K which is pretty similar to the Core i7-5930K but lacks the HyperThreading support. Turbo Boost speeds will take this chip as far as 3.3GHz and its PCIe setup is one x16, x8 and x4.

The upcoming Core i7 “Haswell-E” series can be considered the successors of the current Core i7 “Ivy-Bridge-E” and play nice with the X79 Express chipset.

The new chips will arrive with a new LGA2011-3 package but won’t be compatible with existing LGA 2011 motherboards, as new CPUS will support quad-channel DDR4-2133 MHz memory.

A month ago, we also found out the Core i7-5820K will sell for a sub $400 / €294 price-tag, while the Core i7-5930K will be priced around $600 / €441 margin.

As for the leader of the pack, we were not given the specifics, but as soon as September comes, we’ll probably find out more.
